U.K. service provider TalkTalk Group isn’t sitting still after buying TVOD service blinkbox and the Tesco broadband and fixed line voice base last week, today saying that TV customers with YouView boxes will be able to access Netflix starting immediately.
TalkTalk TV customers with a Netflix subscription can access the service from their set-top box. The deployment will continue through the month, TalkTalk said, with all of its 1.2 million TalkTalk TV customers having access to Netflix by the end of the month.
TalkTalk in the past year has also completed a YouView shareholders agreement for a further five years, extended its partnership with Sky for wholesale premium content and added Sky entertainment channels into its Plus TV package. Its acquisition last week of blinkbox Movies is aimed at helping to accelerate development of TalkTalk TV by delivering key services significantly faster, such as a TV app to customers for in and out of home viewing on multiple devices.
“By partnering with TalkTalk we’re making it even easier for many TV fans and movie lovers in Britain to watch Netflix on their television screens,” said Bill Holmes, global head of business development at Netflix.
The Netflix deal, meanwhile, means TalkTalk will be done playing catchup, to a point; the SVOD service has been available on BT and retail YouView boxes for the past two months.
“The fact that TalkTalk homes can enjoy such a huge range of must-see content, on their TV as well as on other devices is an exciting step forward,” said TalkTalk’s MD Tristia Harrison. “We can’t wait for them to dive into the movies and series everyone’s talking about.”
